I should stress that this site will never be a money making enterprise, even though we now have a small income. That income, as Lemuel said, will enable the site to run, and develop, without the need for myself and others to fund it as we did initially, though we will of course continue to put time and effort into the site entirely voluntarily, with no expectation of financial reward.

What about adding more items to the Online Store? Items other than books, such as cute T-shirts with Gor related print, cups, key chains? All gorean of course. These can be immensly popular. They can provide additional funds while being relatively inexpensive to make. Sorry if I am getting into something I am not supposed to. We do a lot of brainstorming at work for increased revenue ideas, and I couldn't help asking this question here. Sorrrrryy :)
I do like this store. It is VERY convenient; I'll get the rest of the series here.

Tal Veronkia,

As Simon said, this isn't a money making venture. We really aren't looking for ways to make more money - if the site is self sufficient that's more than enough.

Selling such products really isn't something we're interested in. It would distract from our central purpose. It's much more important to us that Mr. Norman's books are now back in print and we would like to be sure they stay in print so other people that might enjoy them can find them and read them.

I wish you well,

Lemuel

Greetings purpod,

You're welcome, and just between you and I the real reason I've been a little quiet recently is much more mundane than has been suggested. I've just been darn busy, it's as simple as that. If you happen to find a way of injecting a few hours of extra time into each day please let me know - that would be an enormous help.

Simon

Hey Simon,

We could apply to the Ministry of Magic to get you a Time-Turner then you'd...

~thwacks forehead~ Oh wait! That's a completely different series of books! ~winks & grins~

Be well,

Lem

I'm sure you, or someone, has answered this, but why isn't Witness available yet? I notice it is available on the Amazon website itself.

Actually, <i>"Witness"</i> is available. It appears on the last page of our new online store. I've already received the copy I ordered.

Does this site get any sort of kick-back from Amazon for the sales made through the Online Store? If I buy the books through your Online Store, does The Chronicles of Gor get any recognition or reward?

Yes, we get a small percentage from each sale initiated through this site. The money goes toward keeping the site up and running by paying server fees, domain name registration fees, software purchases and upgrades, etc.

Simon of Tabor and a couple of others put up the funds to get this site started. Although we do work in close cooperation with John Norman's agent and publisher, E-Reads, we do not receive any kind of financial support from them. Until the books became available all the money for running the site came from Simon's and a few other's generosity.

I wish you well,

Lemuel of the Builders

Avatars and Copyright

Tal All,

We've noticed that a few of the members have used portions of copyrighted images in their avatars. We know that this is a common practice on many other boards and chat sites, but it is something we would prefer not be done here.

Because Simon of Tabor is authorized to enforce John Norman's copyrights we want to be sure we respect the copyrights of others, including copyrights on images.

As you may know, it is permissible to use small, properly attributed portions of text from a copyrighted work under the "fair use" doctrine, if it meets the applicable conditions. Unfortunately, image copyright is much more complex and there are few clear guidelines regarding how much of an image, or when a thumbnail, may legally be used as "fair use" outside an academic setting or in connection with an image search engine or parody (none of which apply to avatars, obviously), even when it is properly cited.

So, if your avatar uses a portion of an image that is not in the public domain, or an image which is not your original creation, (unless it’s one that you’re using with the explicit permission of the original creator, a copy of which the moderators may request that you provide), please select a different image that does not violate someone else's copyright.

Thank you,

Lemuel of the Builders

Okay, I'm still a novice on this computer stuff. For example, I have learned how to post on the forums.

But, when I get on the chat line, and try to post, it doesn't go through. I click the "Submit" button, and it just gets lost.

I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, but don't know what.

I read the General Guidelines, but didn't find anything on this. Any ideas?

Richard

There is occasionally a bit of lag time between submitting the post and it appearing on the screen. Did you hang around and wait to see if it showed up eventually? I'm not sure - but the lag time might increase with the number of people posting and might be dependent on your connection speed.

That's about as much as I know, so if that doesn't help it's definitely a job for Simon.
